Bicycle Accidents in New York

There are many laws and regulations that govern bicyclists in the state of New York. However, even the most law-abiding bicyclist can be seriously injured in a New York bicycle accident. This is especially true when bicyclists are involved in collisions with passenger vehicles. Because bicyclists have few protections from harm, they are more likely to be injured or killed in an accident. In 2019, it was reported that there were 3,835 bicycle accidents in just New York City alone. If you have been hurt in a bicycle accident and do not know where to turn, you should speak with an attorney as soon as possible.

Motor vehicle drivers are supposed to actively pay close attention to the roads around them so that bicycle accidents can be avoided. However, these accidents still continue to occur due to many reasons. These include some of the following:

  • Driver distractions, like texting and driving
  • Drunk or drugged driving
  • Traveling over the speed limit
  • Fatigued driving

Most bicycle accidents can be prevented when drivers and bicyclists are aware of what is happening around them. The injuries that stem from these accidents are typically catastrophic and life-altering.
