Queens, NY – Teen Killed in Hit-and-Run Bicycle Accident on 21st Ave
Queens, NY (April 11, 2023) – At 9:30 p.m. on the night of Monday, April 10, a teenager was killed in a fatal hit-and-run bicycle accident in Queens.
According to Queens officials, the accident happened on 21st Avenue around the area of 21st Street in the Astoria section of the city. Police confirmed that a teenager was riding a Citi e-bike and started to approach the intersection. He was suddenly struck by a 2022 BMW X7 that was traveling southbound on 21st Street and headed through the intersection. The driver of the BMW fled the scene without stopping.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The bicyclist, who has only been identified as a 16-year-old boy, was rushed to a local hospital with traumatic injuries. He was tragically pronounced dead while there.
Police later found the driver of the vehicle who was responsible for causing the accident. The driver, who was identified as 18-year-old Yaser Ibrahim, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, driving without a license, and more.
The roadway was blocked in several lanes at the intersection for some time following the collision.
