Long Island, NY – Fatal Pedestrian Accident on Long Island Expy
Long Island, NY (January 27, 2023) – Around 7:05 p.m. on the evening of Thursday, January 26, a fatal pedestrian accident took place on a highway in Long Island.
According to Suffolk County Police, the accident happened on the Long Island Expressway around the area of exit 50. Police confirmed that a man was headed west in his Ford F-150 when he suddenly pulled onto the side of the road. He got out of his vehicle and started to cross the highway when he was struck by a Chevrolet Malibu being operated by an adult male. A 2007 Hummer being operated by a 49-year-old male then struck the pedestrian. Both of the vehicles remained at the scene.
Several responders, including Long Island fire crews and paramedics, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, who has not yet been formally identified, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Nobody else was hurt in the collision.
A large portion of the road was blocked in the area for some time. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the collision continues.
