Queens, NY (May 17, 2023) – Around 3:39 p.m. on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 17, a child was injured in a pedestrian accident involving a bus in Queens.

According to Queens officials, the accident happened at the intersection of 21st Street and 39th Avenue in the afternoon hours. Police confirmed that a child was walking in the area when, for reasons that are not fully known, they were struck by an MTA bus headed through the intersection. The bus remained at the scene after the accident, as the child was trapped underneath the vehicle.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other Queens responders were dispatched to the scene to help those with injuries after the accident. Fire crews were able to extricate the child from under the bus. The child was then transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Nobody on the bus was hurt due to the collision.

The intersection was blocked in several lanes as police worked to clear the scene.
