Long Island, NY (March 17, 2023) – Around 7:30 a.m. on the morning of Friday, March 17, a man was killed in a Long Island motorcycle crash.

According to Suffolk County Police, the accident happened on Veterans Memorial Highway around the area of East Suffolk Avenue. A man was driving his motorcycle headed eastbound on Veterans Memorial when a box truck that was headed west started to make a U-turn in front of the motorcyclist. The motorcyclist slammed on his brakes to stop, which is when he was ejected from his bike and onto the road.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene. The motorcyclist, who has since been identified as 20-year-old Joshua Taylor, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the box truck, who has been identified as 66-year-old Michael Laskaris, was not hurt but remained on the scene.

The roadway was blocked in the area of the intersection for an extended period of time after the accident.
